There is a lot of awful out there. Awful Books. Horrible Movies. Television that makes you cringe. But sometimes they hit the wall of awful and spring back and land in a magical valley of Awful Good. I spend my spare time roaming this strange and dangerous realm searching for hidden gems, and tearing apart everything else. Nothing is safe.

Reaction to the First Episodes of "Avatar: The Legend of Kora"
A while back when the creators of Last Airbender announced that they were going to make a second show I was pumped. The feature film had been taken out of their hands and ruined completely. This was a chance for me to get more of the world I loved and forget that movie ever existed.
1) I don't know why but I was thrown off by the new open. I mean it was the same moves but with different people and in a different order.
2) Republic City is an awful name and I am going to hate the number of times I have to hear it. If it is the capital of a republic why not call it Capital City.
3) Kora kicks ass, and she already know how to do most of the bending so we don't have a whole first season dedicated to learning each type of bending.
4) WHY IS SOKKA GONE?!?! Stupid Katara is still here but not Sokka? Why cruel world?
5) Polarbeardog is the new flying Bison.
6) Tenzien makes me giggle and I enjoy air bending children.
7) Hello bum in Republic City, you have made my day.
7.5) I know that one of the major plot points of this series is going to be Benders vs. Equalist but really that protester guy needs to be punched.
8) METAL BENDERS ARE THE POLICE! BEST! DAY! EVER!
9)Toph's daughter and Aang's son made my day.
10) Creators, you can not make up for the lack of Zuko - Katara love story by giving us a Fire bender as Kora's love interest. But I will accept this because at least he is less of a wet blanket.
11) Hello fire ferret, I want you.
12) Welcome replacement Sokka, BoLin, you have big shoes to fill
13) I enjoy that this series is slightly older character wise and topic wise. It matches the idea that most fans of the original series will have aged.
Seeing as there have only been three episodes I can't really say if it is for sure the as good as the first but it looks like it could be.

Tv Review: King 2 Hearts
There comes a time every couple of months where there is a lull in my television schedule. Perhaps something has gone off the air, or maybe I am having a fight with Time Warner about HBO Go. Maybe I have finished watching all of the 11th Doctor by find the 9th and 10th to be less than extraordinary. Whatever the reason I find myself in a position of looking outside English language television for entertainment.
When this happens I turn to Asia. And for those of you have gotten really bored and read the archives or have just been around long enough to remember, Asian dramas are kind of epicly strange.
This time I started watching 'King 2 Hearts' which on top of committing the crime of putting a number in a title has a plot so strange I am still not sure what it's trying to do. The show first off asks you to assume that South Korea still has a constitutional monarchy. Then the open has something to do with the World Officer Training something. I have no idea really. I think its supposed to be the Olympics for military people. I feel like I should google to see if it's real but I won't because that is quickly no longer a plot point.
The big deal is that the current king of South Korea wants the North and the South to compete as one. So the first few episode are all about the team training. Of course it isnt that simple because you know the crown prince (the king's brother) is forced on the team and it turns out that the North sent a girl as their leader. So the two clash all the time because thats what happens in these shows.
Then they King is trying to find some one for the prince to marry and the North lady is offered as a possible candidate because the King wants his brother to marry some one form the North in an attempt to bring greater peace....geting bored. And then suddenly the king dies and the princess gets crippled and the prince is the new king and North lady is his fiance all in like two episode. It does a huge flip in like no time at all.
My biggest complaint about the show so far is the "bad guy." I don't take him seriously. I mean lets be honest when was the last time you were afraid of some one that did magic tricks as their hobby? I mean really think about this. Would you be afraid of a slightly overweight Korean man who ran around in button down shirts and spent so much time doing magic tricks? I know I am not. They keep trying to build some tension with him because he is some kind of arms dealer that wants the Koreas to keep fighting. He is even the reason the King dies. But I am not scared of him.
Hell I don't even want to punch him the way I wan to punch Joffery. (can you tell I have been watching Game of Thrones?) Seriously I have no idea how he is scary. If all the characters just ignored him things would be better. I mean they kicked him out of the country and then he killed the King but cant the prince be like "I be busy yall" and peace out?
Also in related thoughts I am really unsure if North Korea is anything like what they show. I mean they have all these kind of nice looking places and then they just have them really empty. Although the really brief flash of what I assume was a Kim Jong Ill impersonator was so worth it.
Right now the show is still airing so I have no idea where it is even going with this. I mean are they going to go back to being military group? Are they going to make it all about him being King now and how him and the chick only slightly like each other? Am I going to have to watch more magic tricks with suspenseful music played over them? These are the questions I want answered.

Book Review Alien Proliferation by Gini Koch
My brain hurts. I feel like I need a week to recover from this. I also feel disappointed and kind or sad, to the point that I have given in and accepted the fact that the only way to come back from this mess is to read Game for Thrones.
Back when I read the first Gini Koch alien book I was smitten. It was this spunky and fast sci-fi book that made me happy. I found the entire thing tons of fun. I realize now I was wrong. So wrong. I need to be punished.
Some books spend over 300 pages dedicated to solving a single or maybe two mysteries. These books cover one in a chapter. Its ruff. There is a climax ever could of pages. The fact that most of the main character can super speed is used to do so many things so quickly.
I am not going to explain the plot, frankly because I cant. I have no idea how I am supposed to ever sum up what was going on.
On top of that insanity no one ever fucking dies. Ever. This is the opposite of George R. R. Martin's camp and firmly in the Stephanie Meyer camp of writing. Where every major character not only gets to live but gets to have a nice tied up love story. I am sorry but not everything works that way. These books have so many characters that they compose an entire division and a half in an organization and not a single one of them bites the bullet or stays injured for long.
One guy dies, and he was in the first chapter for like a hand full of pages and then died off screen in the middle of the book.
I am angry with these books. They cheated me. I thought they were my friends but now that I have spent more time with good books lately I see them for the impostors they are.

Thought of the Day
I was once fought over by two boys when I was in high school. I was not really aware that it was happening and at one point it apparently did come to blows, and from what I have heard it was the weirdest thing ever seen because they were both string beans. So having had that experience I can truthfully say that it is not as exciting as it appears in the books and movies. Just putting it out there.
Real boys in high school are not that well groomed and put together. They are also not so great at showing their emotions so while you might know that your boyfriend and this one guy friend of yours might not seem to like each other you will have no clue what is really happening. Well you might. To be honest I didn't care. That might have been part of it.
Still string beans, fighting. Thats what it looks like.
