There comes a time every couple of months where there is a lull in my television schedule. Perhaps something has gone off the air, or maybe I am having a fight with Time Warner about HBO Go. Maybe I have finished watching all of the 11th Doctor by find the 9th and 10th to be less than extraordinary. Whatever the reason I find myself in a position of looking outside English language television for entertainment.
When this happens I turn to Asia. And for those of you have gotten really bored and read the archives or have just been around long enough to remember, Asian dramas are kind of epicly strange.
This time I started watching 'King 2 Hearts' which on top of committing the crime of putting a number in a title has a plot so strange I am still not sure what it's trying to do. The show first off asks you to assume that South Korea still has a constitutional monarchy. Then the open has something to do with the World Officer Training something. I have no idea really. I think its supposed to be the Olympics for military people. I feel like I should google to see if it's real but I won't because that is quickly no longer a plot point.
The big deal is that the current king of South Korea wants the North and the South to compete as one. So the first few episode are all about the team training. Of course it isnt that simple because you know the crown prince (the king's brother) is forced on the team and it turns out that the North sent a girl as their leader. So the two clash all the time because thats what happens in these shows.
Then they King is trying to find some one for the prince to marry and the North lady is offered as a possible candidate because the King wants his brother to marry some one form the North in an attempt to bring greater peace....geting bored. And then suddenly the king dies and the princess gets crippled and the prince is the new king and North lady is his fiance all in like two episode. It does a huge flip in like no time at all.
My biggest complaint about the show so far is the "bad guy." I don't take him seriously. I mean lets be honest when was the last time you were afraid of some one that did magic tricks as their hobby? I mean really think about this. Would you be afraid of a slightly overweight Korean man who ran around in button down shirts and spent so much time doing magic tricks? I know I am not. They keep trying to build some tension with him because he is some kind of arms dealer that wants the Koreas to keep fighting. He is even the reason the King dies. But I am not scared of him.
Hell I don't even want to punch him the way I wan to punch Joffery. (can you tell I have been watching Game of Thrones?) Seriously I have no idea how he is scary. If all the characters just ignored him things would be better. I mean they kicked him out of the country and then he killed the King but cant the prince be like "I be busy yall" and peace out?
Also in related thoughts I am really unsure if North Korea is anything like what they show. I mean they have all these kind of nice looking places and then they just have them really empty. Although the really brief flash of what I assume was a Kim Jong Ill impersonator was so worth it.
Right now the show is still airing so I have no idea where it is even going with this. I mean are they going to go back to being military group? Are they going to make it all about him being King now and how him and the chick only slightly like each other? Am I going to have to watch more magic tricks with suspenseful music played over them? These are the questions I want answered.
There is a lot of awful out there. Awful Books. Horrible Movies. Television that makes you cringe. But sometimes they hit the wall of awful and spring back and land in a magical valley of Awful Good. I spend my spare time roaming this strange and dangerous realm searching for hidden gems, and tearing apart everything else. Nothing is safe.

Tv Review: Are you there Chelsea?
I stopped watching after ten minutes. I only made it that long because I was hoping it would get better after they left the jail.
It didn't.
Don't watch it.

Movie Review Piranha
When this movie came out in theaters over the summer I had really meant to go see it. My boyfriend and I on several occasions said we were going to go see it and then never got around to it. Now I am really glad we didnt.
The movie was a bit of a let down. This one movie reviewer I trust said it was tons of blood and girls and just sorta good bad. I wasn't expecting it to be epic but at lease pretty cool. Frankly I was forty five minutes into the movie before there was anything super entertaining. Before that point there was really only two deaths by fish in the movie. I was kinda bored for the first half really. And then all of a sudden it got crazy bloody. I had to stop eating the pizza I was having at the time to not get super grossed out. They really went all out with the prosthetic mayhem.
Another thing that was annoying was that there were two kids in the movie. I mean really two small children were part of this. We all know that no one is going to kill the kids but people trying to save them is going to end up causing others to die. And there was this whole plot with their older brother trying to get some money for a Girls Gone Wild kind of group. Which involved some really long drawn out moments. Not to mention they have this glass bottom boat that could never exist because glass that protruded would slow the boat down when its moving. But on a similar note there were a lot of tits in the movie. I mean not enough to really blow my mind or anything like that, but there were like four porn stars in the movie. My boyfriend was really entertained until he got his pizza and then it didn't really matter anymore.
The end of the movie is real punch in the face. It ends with this idea that the piranhas that have been attacking everyone all day are the babies and that there are larger ones out there, and then a giant one eats the scientist. Which begs the question if they are planning to make another movie about this, because I don't know if I can sit through it.
Also that outboard motor scene that looked like it was going to be epic in the trailer was a total let down.

Rising To The Challange
Alright so I like video games. I think they are really cool and I love all the different kinds there are. Sadly I suck royally at them. I am a button masher of the worst degree. The second the enemy attacks my ability to remember which button does what fails and my braid issues a command; "PUSH ALL BUTTONS! ALL BUTTONS UNTIL IT IS DEAD!" As most of you know this means I do poorly all the time.
My boyfriend likes to call me out on the fact that while I talk about video games, and am interested in them I don't acctually play any video games. That was right about the time that Dragon Age came out.
Okay so Dragon Age is the standard medival action adventure kind of game. You get to place one of three races, Human, Elf and Dwarf and those standard sort of jobs Warrior, Rogue, Mage. There is some kind of orc/zombie esc horde that is attacking this country. Pretty much its right up my alley. In fact here is a really funny review of it.
So about a year ago or so I picked up the game from my boyfriend and started to play. Well actually first I played through the part with werewolves and nothing else. Then I went back and started the game over on my own xbox. I was past some of the really annoying missions when I learned I had stacked my character points wrong. I was making game play harder for myself. So I started all over again. And when I got to this really annoying part right before this dream sequence stuff that killed me about three times in the previous attempt I gave up.
Well then I made my boyfriend read a book I thought he would like that I had read. He almost liked it, but not enough to ever let me live down the fact that he completed the thing I wanted and yet I can't finish the thing that he wanted me to try.
Well being unemployed for a couple of days has seen me burn through the selection that Netflix has to offer and I have seen so many movies that there are no new releases that tickle my fancy. Also there are trailers for the second installment of Dragon Age out already and I would sort of like to know where the story goes.
The major draw back here.....My game data is on the hard drive I sold to my brother, so I will have to start from the point I left off here or play through the opening quests for a fourth time. I can't decide. I know I slaughtered all the elves in favor of the werewolves in this one but I also missed like five quests in the area. It has also come to my attention that I left my strategy guide with my brother so I might be playing with a poorly stacked character again. Argh. I think I might start a chronicle of what I do here.

TV Review: Eureka Season 1
I feel a bit bad about this. I bought these dvds a few years ago and then forgot about them after watching half the season. The boyfriend was bored a few days ago and then we saw the season on Netflix. We ended up pulling out the dvd's when my computer started being stupid.
Okay so the basis of the show is that some where in Oregon there is this town called Eureka that was created during the early days of World War II. The town was created for the scientist that were creating our weapons of war, the town later became a place were the brightest minds in the country are kept so that their experiments can be monitored. The show opens with US Marshal Jack Carter and his daughter Zoe making a road trip home after she attempted to run away. They have car trouble and end up in Eureka. While there an experiment goes wrong and Jack is forced to help the local law enforcement.
The show is science heavy. I mean rather science heavy. The issue is that I am watching this show with my boyfriend, who reads modern science for fun and picks up books by Steven Hawking for light reading. So the few times the show tried to do something that can't be done or doesn't make science sense then I get to hear about it. At the same time he was the one begging to watch another episode at two in the morning.
The characters are fun. I like Jack a lot and his continued attempts to understand what is happening around him. Henry, the local mechanic who functions as a jack of all trades for the town is the boyfriend's favorite. He wants to be Henry. I am a little annoyed with the females in the show. The female cop is cool and is fine, but the 'love interest' girl is just super dull. Like crazy dull. Then there is this therapist in the town that everyone is supposed to think is crazy hot but she sure doesn't look it. That's the issue with Sci-fi produced shows, the network doesn't have the money to pay really pretty people to be in the series, so you end up with sorta pretty.
I enjoyed the show. I am kind of stocked to see what happens in the up coming seasons. I would really recommend it. Because while there is science they explain it to Jack so we get to understand the science in layman's terms.

Authors I Bookmark part 1
Yeah, I know two posts one day equals over achiever. But I'm up and in the mood to get started. So lets first talk about some of my favorite authors.
Lets start with the woman that first began my decent into this addiction: Sherrilyn Kenyon.
Kenyon is the author of the extremely expansive Dark Hunter series. I started the series at the beginning (something that rarely happens I always seem to pick up the middle book by accident) and was rather impressed. Try to remember I was reading these books long before Twilight killed vampires for most of the population. Her vampires are not so much vampires as they are two races at war. One race, the Apollites were originally created by the god Apollo and then cursed to die at the age of 26. They feed on human souls to live longer (but not all of them some of them are nice and kick the bucket without trying to eat us). The other race is Dark Hunters, who are warriors that died and Artimis granted them eternal life and a chance to get revenge to those who wronged them in exchange for being her personal army against the Apollites.
Kenyon has some great delievery of new ideas. She uses Greek mythology to fuel her characters and even pulls on other mythological beings on a regular basis. The series started pretty awesome and while she tends to overdue the goth thing with the male leads in her books they are decent, or were. Sadly after about the first ten books she got strange. It's gotten to the point where I now dread a new book from her, because the interlocking plot requires that I read every book but I stopped caring about some of her characters five books ago.
I would still suggest the first couple of books in the series. The books hit a down turn right about the time Dream Hunters come in and start to take up more space than the Dark Hunters and the Were Hunters. ( If you really want to know about them ask. but i doubt you will.) The last four books have either had no plot at all or so much plot that the book just sort of explodes in your face.
Kenyon receives a C- for her overall score.
Next on my list is Kresley Cole:
Cole might be one of my favorites and I have recommended her books to other readers. Immortals After Dark series has yet to fail me and her two historical romance series hold up to multiple reads.
The thing I like most about Cole is she sticks to a formula, she doesnt over due the goth thing on the vampires, and she brings up old characters so you can see how they are doing. Lore, or the community of magical and mystical creatures that live amongst us is the foundation of the series. So far the majority of the female characters come from a house full of Valkyrie in New Orleans with a witch, a ghost and a sorceri mixed in. The males are either vampires, werewolves or deamons.
Cole's strongest point is her humor. The valkyrie and the witches have an on going video game torunament. The one character that can see the future is completely out of her mind and sends the rest of the leads on wild goose chases for her amusement. Cole doesnt ever let any of the characters get too broody or too gloomy by making sure a joke always comes up just when things get tense. And while she sticks to the main ingredient of paranormal all of the characters are fairly modern and interact more like normal people.
True the back stories might not be as complicated as other authors (cough Kenyon cough) but i prefer it that way. Each book opens with little excerpts about what races in Lore will be making an appearance in that book as well as a glossary of terms that will come up. The other nice thing is that she introduces her characters before they get their own book. Each main character was first a supporting character or mentioned in a previous book, and while this is common in romance series Cole pulls it off bettter than some of the other authors out there.
Currently I am pacing waiting for the next installment which was hinted at two books ago. Now if only the publication dates would stop changing.
Cole recieves an A- for her overall score.

Because bad books are what I do
Greetings creatures of the internet.
If you have stumbled here by accident or perhaps been sent the link my yours truly (more likely) here is a quick rundown of what this lovely little corner of the interwebs:
I have an addiction to read the worst kinds of books, those over the top romance paper backs. And I go through them so quickly that a friend suggested I write about it. Mostly this sounds like an awesome idea because I have learned there is such a thing as taking a guilty pleasure too far.
So from now on it will be my mission to read these books (which i would do anyway) and then write for others to see. We might even get input from two of my trusted friends and fellow bad book readers.
So in other words here goes nothing.
